His Excellency Mr. Mohammad Boroujerdi, the Islamic Republic of Iran's Ambassador to Jakarta, engaged in diplomatic discussions with His Excellency Mr. Prabowo Subianto, the current Minister of Defense and the President-elect of the Republic of Indonesia based on the quick counts, on Friday, March 8, 2024. During this meeting, both parties underscored the need to expedite the implementation of agreements reached between the two countries, highlighting the signing of 10 memorandums of understanding on cooperation and a preferential trade agreement (PTA) during the visit of the respected President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, H.E. Mr. Raisi, to Indonesia in May 2023. His Excellency Mr. Boroujerdi, referencing the signing of a Letter of Intent for Defense Cooperation between Iran and Indonesia in November 2022, emphasized the importance of swiftly executing the contents of this letter. In this context, H.E. Boroujerdi expressed a willingness for the exchange of military students between the two countries and announced Iran’s readiness to accept Indonesian military students for doctoral programs at Iran's National Defense University. His Excellency Mr. Prawobo, in turn, lauded the long-standing, robust relationship between Iran and Indonesia, praising Iran's independence in developing defense and military technologies and its capability to indigenize these technologies domestically. He expressed interest in expanding defense cooperation with Iran, recognizing it as a powerful and influential country in the West Asia region. Additionally, the two sides discussed the latest situation in Gaza, identifying it as an important and principal international challenge. They stressed the necessity for Islamic countries to unite in support of Palestine and to condemn the crimes of the Zionist regime.
